About
us at Heads N' Tails
and Papillons in general
In 1992, I got my first Papillon, Kelly, and she got me instantly addicted to this breed. Intelligent, pretty, cheerful, sweet, and easy to train. That last bit is an everlasting battle of wits because anything you teach them can and will be used against you. I happen to like a good challenge ;-) Papillons always find a funny way to turn daily life into a circus. They are highly accurate in checking if you really don't feel so great or if you just have a bad mood for no particular reason. In the last case, they'll make you pay for being grumpy by doing everything you hoped they wouldn't.
In 1995 "my" (actually, it was Kelly's) first litter was born, a big fat singleton babygirl named Pandora. I chose "Heads N' Tails" as kennelname because these two items are important breed characteristics for a Butterfly Dog, and because to some extent, breeding requires a bit of luck. For more info about Papillons and my thoughts on breeding, click HERE. I owe my dogs a lot. Without them, I never would have met some of my best friends. Through the years my group of lovely lil' monsters has grown extensively and I've been living in furry fairyland for a long time. Due to getting divorced, the time of breeding and frequently attending shows is over and the number of canine familymembers at home has been sadly and drastically reduced. With all that's changing, I can only take care of a limited number of dogs. Those who found a new home are happy and doing well, for which I'm tremendously thankful. The seniors are staying with me, as is young Halo. Though I'm not very competitive by nature, I enjoy going to shows to keep in touch with developments within the breed and of course to spend time with friends and have a relaxing day. It will be fun to show Prince in veterans class and get his grandson Halo started.
Thanks to the dogs I have found more hobbies and interests than I have time for ;-) Like my computer, that I have a love-hate relationship with...

Its main task seems to be an ongoing test of my self-control, patience and mental endurance.. But life is good when everything works. I can hardly remember what it was like not having internet. My friends on the other side of the world are in that box. Thanks to the help and encouragement of some talented friends on the PicturePaps emailgroup, I have missed a lot of sleep by playing around with photos to make graphics for the website and things like this:
The Epagneul Nain Continental has two varieties, the erect eared Papillon and dropeared Phalène. They're not a breed for everyone. Their sharp minds, affectionate nature and their need to be involved in daily life require a likewise committment (and strong sense of humor) from their owner. Though I won't have pups or adults available, you're welcome to send me an e-mail if you have questions about general care or how to find a responsibly bred Papillon.
